THE borough commander of Hillingdon Police has expressed his sadness at the death of a volunteer and coordinator of Hillingdon Neighbourhood Watch.

Ken MacGregor, of Charlton Close, Ickenham, died on Thursday last week at Hillingdon Hospital aged 82.

A former producer at the BBC, he went on to “become the face” of Neighbourhood Watch in Hillingdon.

As part of his role he compiled figures and crime prevention advice which he would collate into a newsletter and send to homes around the borough.

Detective Superintendent Julian Worker said: “Ken MacGregor has been a volunteer with Hillingdon police for some 15 years.

“Ken was highly regarded for his work as the borough Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator.

“He was a man of enormous energy whose passion for getting communities involved in looking after them will be his lasting legacy.

“Ken's gently encouraging style kept the rest of us on our toes and also meant that he created respect and friendship among those he worked with.

“His loss leaves a massive gap in our community engagement work and we will miss him greatly.

“My condolences go out to Ken's family and all those that knew and worked with him."

Former councillor and chairman of the Hayes Town Partnership David Brough said: “He was devoted to what he did and he was a true gentleman who always got his point across in his quiet modest manner.

“Everybody who has heard the news is absolutely devastated.”
