MP Nick Hurd is a father again.

The Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner MP, aged 53, and his wife, Clare, welcomed their second child, Caspar Jamie, last night (Tuesday), a brother to Leila.

Mr Hurd has four children from his first marriage to Kim Richards.

In July, Mr Hurd resigned as Minister for Civil Society, and was replaced by Brooks Newmark, who himself hit the headlines this week following revelations about his private life which caused his resignation from the job.

Caspar weighed in at almost nine pounds, and in a statement this morning, Mr Hurd said: ""The birth  of a sixth child is as exciting for me as the first time round. I could not be more pleased.

"Caspar is the size of a two month year old and Clare is exhausted but elated."
