A CRAFT group whose members create quilts and bags and spin yarns among other things celebrated its first birthday with tea, cake and knitting needles.

Ruislip Knit and Stitch have met at Manor Farm Library, in Bury Street, Ruislip, once a week for the past year and, on Tuesday last week, the ladies came together to celebrate its year anniversary.

Assistant branch manager at the library Christine Etherington, who set up the group, said: “We already ran a lot of reading groups and a weekly creative writing evening, so we were looking for an activity which had a more practical feel to it, where people can learn a skill and take something home with them. The Knit and Stitch group fitted the bill perfectly.”

Six women attended the first meeting, but the group has a membership of around 25 craft lovers.

Group member Karin Farnworth said: “The group is very productive, and not just in knitting and sewing. Many new friendships have been woven together over mugs of tea, conversation and laughter.

“We inspire each other and we all learn from each other. I never knew how to crochet before.”

The group plans an exhibition in Manor Farm Library in the autumn.

? Ruislip Knit and Stitch meets on Tuesdays at Manor Farm Library, from 6pm to 7.30pm. Membership is free and for more information call the library on 01895 558 234.
