I AM glad Councillor Barbara Reid has apologised for the appalling effects on the borough with the start of the new recycling service ('A Rubbish Start', Chronicle, March 19).
It is honest of her to say that the disruption has been caused by 'more than just teething problems'.
As a result of the number of calls we had received, Cllr Matt Harmer and I visited the council's environment call centre last Friday, and we have raised a series of questions about the management of the new tender process with Cllr Reid.
A week later, there have been some improvements for dealing with complaints, with the recruitment of additional call centre staff, and a call-waiting system has just been introduced.
However, there is still uncollected waste on a daily basis. This fiasco raises serious questions about the level of preparation put in for a significant new project, and whether the specification was appropriate.
This contract is already costing more than the previous one, and we hope that it will not cost the council tax payer yet more as a result of inadequate preparation.
