Well, so much for the new system of rubbish collection!

It is, in itself, rubbish. Where we used to put out just two items, a black bag with general waste and a green tub containing bottles, tins and newspapers on a regular basis with occasionally a bag of garden waste, we now have a possible five.

Again, a black bag, the old green tub, in which we should put glass and tins, a small green tub for food waste, a blue bag for paper and a large bag for plastics.

Cardboard, as before, goes in with glass and tins.

The large bag for plastics is put out alternate weeks with any refuse bags in the intervening week.

Are you with me so far? Today (March 27), only one item was collected and that was the black bag.

That, along with everything else mentioned, was put out late last evening and is now unlikely to be collected until Saturday morning, which means either my drive entrance or my footpath have to be blocked for a further 24 hours as residents are told they must not place anything for collection on the pavement.

So, it's all right for my drive entrance or foot

path to be blocked then?

What happened to the collection lorries today?

Last week I had to put out twogarden refuse sacks which stood just outside my house for about a day and a half because they weren't collected on Friday morning.

They always used to be.

Quite frankly I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the council had taken on SITA to deal with rubbish collection.

I recall some years ago the same company was used and eventually given the boot because they weren't up to the job.

They are most definitely not up to it now.

As for the ludicrous system forced upon us by the local authority, I'm lost for words.

There was nothing wrong with the old system as, except for the occasional delay due to bank holidays, everything was removed by lunchtime on a Friday and took up far less room as we could put what we had out on the pavement.

What nincompoop was responsible for forcing the new system on us?
