Schools in Hillingdon were largely cheering today as A-level mania swept through the borough.

Most schools were recording between 95 - 100 per cent pass rate, despite the national figure being the lowest for two decades.

Head boy of Harlington Community School Gary Izunwa (pictured) couldn't stop smiling after comfortably securing the A-level grades he needed for a place at Leicester University, to study Business Management with Politics.

"I am just so overwhelmed," said Gary after he picked up his results this morning (Thursday).

"I couldn't have done it without the support of my teachers."   Northwood School had a pass rate of 97 per cent and an average point score of 627.

Deputy headteacher Mark Anderson said: “We are delighted with the students results. There are some really lovely success stories. It’s all down to the hard work of the students and staff.”

Haydon School had an overall pass rate of 98 per cent.

Headteacher Steve Robson, who was attending his last results day at the school, after retiring in June said: "Results day is always a lovely day at Haydon. This is what I'm going to miss."
