ROTARY clubs in the borough hope to raise thousands of pounds for wounded war heroes with a concert and auction next week.

The Greenford, Ealing and Hanwell and Northfields club will host the concert at St Barnabas Church in Pitshanger Lane, Ealing, on Saturday next week (27), sponsored by Willis Motors of South Ruislip.

And the squadron dance band of the Central RAF band will entertain guests.

Last year they raised a remarkable £10,000 for Help for Heroes and hope to repeat that this year.

Hazel Ware, former Ealing Mayor and president of Greenford Rotary Club, said: “Last year the concert raised in excess of £10,000 and we would like to match that. “We’ve still got tickets available. We have the band, raffle and auction but the best part is the generosity of all the shopkeepers and traders who have donated items, which really and truthfully means we have very little expenditure.”

Items going under the hammer include a Kindle e-reader, a laptop, dinner for two, a pair of decanters, and a handbag. Football fans will be keen to get their hands on two VIP dinner and game tickets for Chelsea FC worth up to £300. Waitrose West Ealing and Harrison’s deli in Pitshanger Lane will provide food and Northolt’s Kingshill Carpets has donated wine for the evening.

Tickets cost £15 including drinks and light refreshments. Please call Mrs Ware on 020 8864 1824.
