GIRLS from Heathfield School enjoyed learning about different cultures during an international day last month.

The pupils, in years 7 to 10, enrolled in classes including salsa dancing, classical history and Egyptian mathematics.

A mural was painted during the day, with different groups of girls adding to the painting. It is now hanging in the learning resources centre at the school in Beaulieu Drive, Pinner. Pupils also designed balloon rockets and studied aerodynamics in the science department, which was set up to resemble an international space station.

Other projects involved learning Egyptian, Russian and Chinese and designing festival posters for different faiths and religions.

The languages department asked pupils to put a different twist on modern fairy tales, while Mandarin teacher Shani Dovell encouraged the girls to learn the art of Chinese brush painting.
