NEIGHBOURS in West Drayton had to leave their homes after the discovery of what was said to be an ‘unexploded device’ in a house.
People living in Money Lane, Catherine’s Close and Brooklyn Way were told to evacuate at around 1.30pm on Monday.
A householder told the Gazette an officer informed her a grenade had been discovered in a house, and bomb squad officers were called to deactivate it.
Fire crews were on standby and people were allowed back at around 2.30pm.
The Green in West Drayton was closed, between Church Road and Mill Road, and the U3 bus was diverted.
A Met police spokesperson said: “It was reported as a grenade in a shed. Bomb disposal officers quickly established that it wasn’t a live device, and stood down at around 2.15pm.”
