A proactive neighbourhood watch group has presented a petition to the council calling for tougher speed restrictions in their area.

Members of Waterloo Road, Alder Grove and Paddock Road Neighbourhood Watch, in Dollis Hill, want a 20mph zone introduced to stop unruly motorists.

They also demanded the council repair tatty and dilapidated pavements when they handed over the document at Brent Town Hall, on Monday.

Abraham Wilson, chairman of the watch, said: "In time the cracked, broken, uneven and dangerous pavements will fragment the community, causing a low feeling of self-esteem, that the younger generation will pick up on.

"People will then wonder why the children behave in a antisocial manner."

The council has claimed that an investigation found cars were not using excessive speed in the area, but the neighbourhood watch team disagrees.

Mr Wilson added: "I was told by the council that there had not been any reported accidents in these roads recently.

"But does an accident have to take place before motorists are accountable for their speeding?"
