In reply to the letter from Damon Hunt of BAA [The truth about the cemetery, Gazette, February 4]: yes, BAA has given a commitment to ruling out a road through the cemetery.
However, what BAA has refused to do is give a commitment that any road scheme will not have a detrimental effect on the cemetery.
The other factor here is that BAA is in the business of running airports, they are not responsible for delivery of the road schemes to cater for their expansion.
The decision will ultimately lie with the Highways Agency and TfL. Therefore, any commitment from BAA regarding the cemetery is just another pie-in-the-sky promise.
