A road which has been closed since Saturday's huge fire at Hounslow Royal British Legion's clubhouse on Saturday is now not expected to reopen until at least Monday (March 24).

Whitton Road has been closed between Heath Road and Hanworth Road since the fire broke out on Saturday afternoon.

Police had hoped to reopen the road today but engineers are still working to make the site safe so an investigation into the cause of the fire can begin.

A council spokesman today said the closure was expected to remain in place until at least Monday.

"To help with traffic issues, we have worked with Hounslow Highways to put an additional diversion in place and Station Road has been made one way to help with this," he added.

"Buses will also be able to go down Station Road one way  (westbound) and Cross Lances Road in the opposite direction which will significantly reduce the diversion currently in place for bus numbers H20 and 281. Additional signage is also being placed along the route of the diversion."

A map showing the additional diversions in place from 10am today (Thursday, March 20) is available here .
