Re: Roadworks letter from Jack Freeman, the Gazette, September 5

I APPRECIATE things don't happen overnight. The poem was titled the Phantom Roadworker, which was not printed, and everything is in the title.

Perhaps Ealing Council should check that roadworks are not left unattended for weeks on end. Also, as a pedestrian the state of the pavements leaves a lot to be desired; they never seem to get fixed at all.

I know a lot of people who have had bad falls. I'm sure a lot of Gazette readers do too.

When they complain to the council they do not want to know. Fixing the pavement is something we have asked the council to do.

It is not always a short-term pain, Mr Freeman, when you have had a bad fall.

Temporary traffic lights are also inconvenient to pedestrians, and so the roadworks go on ad infinitum.
