Plans for 139 riverside homes in Isleworth have been given the go-ahead.

Empty office blocks and a multi-storey car park in Swan Court, Swan Street, will be demolished and replaced with a mix of flats, townhouses and commercial premises.

The new development, which will be five storeys at its highest point, was approved by councillors at last night's planning committee meeting.

A 280-signature petition opposing the original plans for the site was presented to Hounslow Council by residents.

But developers said they had responded to concerns by reducing the height of riverside buildings and the amount of commercial floor space, among other changes.

Should the plans have been rejected, developers could have converted the existing offices into 90 homes under permitted development rights introduced last year by the Government.

Isleworth councillor Sue Sampson said the new development was a much better option than this conversion.

"The site has been empty for more than five years and the footprint of the new development is smaller than what's currently there," added the Labour councillor.

A new football dome in Cranford, for use by QPR's academy players and local schoolchildren, was among the other applications approved at last night's meeting.
