Regarding 'Trees Shouldn't have been felled' (Chronicle, September 11).

I read Danny Byrne's letter with interest and wonder how 'local' he really is.

His letter states that Feltham FC has few local players - and is a small football concern. This is not true. As well as the 1st team (currently ground-sharing at Bedfont while the Arenas is redeveloped) there is a reserve team and numerous youth sides, all under the Feltham banner.

Something Mr Byrne should know, as he says he has spent a lot of time with voluntary youth movements 'encouraging activities like football'.

Mr Byrne also states that he is worried that the site will be enclosed by barbed wire-topped fences. If had ventured to the Arenas site over the last few decades, he would have noticed that there were already such fences surrounding it and the adjacent running track.

With reference to the trees and the parakeets - the parakeets are actually clearing the area of smaller birds as they are predators. The new trees which will be planted around the newly landscaped Arenas will encourage wildlife over the course of time.

Overall, the redeveloped Arenas site will be a boon to the local community, and will replace the vandalised eyesore that has stood derelict for the last few years.
