AN EXTENSIVE six-week public consultation has been launched over the regeneration of four housing estates in Westminster.

Over the coming weeks, residents, businesses and other organisations will be asked for their views on renewing the Ebury Bridge Estate, in Pimlico; Church Street Estate, in Lisson Grove; Tollgate Estate, in Maida Vale; and Brunel Estate, in North Paddington.

Under Westminster Council's proposals, launched on Tuesday last week, better quality affordable housing, better community facilities and more job opportunities are set to be created.

The council has also announced that architect Urban Initiatives has been appointed to lead on proposals for Church Street.

The renewal programme aims to improve existing housing stock, create more open space and community facilities, and revamp the Church Street market, in a bid to attract more shoppers.

Councillor Philippa Roe, Westminster Council's cabinet member for housing, said: "This programme is far more than a short-term fix.

"It is part of our commitment to improve the lives of people in Westminster by giving our residents real choice and significantly improving opportunities in housing, education and employment.

"We want residents to be involved from the outset, shaping, and helping to direct this programme of renewal. Comprehensive consultation is key to achieving this.

"We will be talking to residents, businesses, councillors and other organisations to find out what is important to them."

Anyone who would like to respond to the consultation on the draft strategy should email renewalstrategy@westminster.gov.uk or call 020 7641 3097.
