ANOTHER consultation will be held on a possible Tesco supermarket at Hillingdon Circus.

Plans have already been submitted for the 3,000sq m store at the junction of Long Lane and Western Avenue.

A consultation was held at the time but the company has made changes to its transport assessment of the area, and so people living nearby and businesses will be invited to comment again.

Traffic concerns formed the basis of some objections to the store. Ickenham Residents’ Association was among those who raised fears.

Chairman, Humphrey Tizzard, said: “They haven’t taken into account the congestion that is already there.

“Their modelling has also involved extending waiting times at the pedestrian crossings.

“At the moment they are far too long and people have complained.

“If you make the pedestrian crossing time too long people don’t obey the lights, and then you have accidents.”

James Rodger, head of planning at Hillingdon Council, said: “We are currently waiting on a revised transport assessment from Tesco, and once this has been received we will be starting another consultation with residents and local businesses.”

Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager for Tesco said: “Traffic is a very important issue for many local people which is why we have worked with the council and community to find the right solution.

“Like any major projec, this means our plans have continued to be refined in response to feedback.

"We are looking forward to concluding our work with the council shortly.”

If approved, the site would also have room for about 53 homes and a Premier Inn hotel.

It neighbours a site being eyed by Tesco's rivals Morrisons, who are yet to submit plans for its store and a housing development, despite carrying out preliminary consultations in November.
