A residents association is fighting train bosses for compensation to make their future more bearable.

Their consultation response is in relation to the November 2013 HS2 Environmental Statement (the ‘Proposed Scheme’) Consultation relating to Phase One of HS2 and specifically addressing the impact of HS2 on Wells House Road (WHR), Old Oak Common Lane (OOCL) and other areas affected in the east Acton ward.

The consultation process ends on February 27.

Amanda Jesson, chairwoman of WHR Residents Association, went door knocking to hand out response forms, and said she needs 40 for HS2 to listen.

These forms outline 27 conditions that those who live in WHR are rooting for, including ensuring WHR in its entirety, with Hilltop Works, will remain in tact, to be recognised as a ‘special case’, for all homes in the road to be included within the Property Compensation Scheme beyond the exceptional hardship scheme and more clarity on the impact of noise, sound, vibrations and air quality during construction.

Ms Jesson said: “We are not trying to stop HS2, we just want a fair deal for the residents.

“They are saying our circumstances are not extreme enough for us to have compensation- so I do not know what extreme is when you are living on an island with construction, dust and road closures all around.

“We are applying for property compensation but are also saying we need mitigation compensation for the effects- for example sound barriers.

“It’s sad as a lot of the people have got so much else going on in their lives. I went to visit one man who looks after his wife who has dementia - he is 80 and just does not have the time to engage with the protest.

“The majority of people want to stay put in their houses but are not sure if they are going to be able to because of the noise.”

The community of WHR will be surrounded by development during the 10-15 years construction process and will have loss of easy access to various local amenities for a year.

MP for Ealing Central and Acton, Angie Bray, is visiting residents to discuss any issues they have on February 27.
