A prolific burglar who crammed 64 burglaries into less than two months has been jailed.

Mohammed Duallhe was released from prison in May but arrested in July after leaving forensic evidence at a house in Harrow that he raided while the owners slept upstairs.

He initially claimed his traces were on the scene because he had scared away a group of kids who had opened the window but pleaded guilty on Friday with the rest of his offences taken into consideration.

The 28-year-old of Whitefriars Avenue was handed a four-year sentence at Harrow Crown Court.

Detectives investigating the case had arrested him at an immigration centre at Heathrow when he showed up for an appointment there.

The Somalian-born burglar took mainly laptops and jewellery from properties in the borough.

His previous jail term had also been for house-breaking.

Detective constable Andy miller, who led the investigation, said: "This was a series of crimes and the sentence goes to show the people of Harrow that burglary is taken seriously and dealt with robustly."

He repeated the borough force's warning for families to take extra care displaying jewellery during the season of religious festivals as this traditionally sees a spike in the number of break-ins.

Harrow police have launched a range of initiatives to try and combat the trend, including spreading a community safety message at temples and targetting prolific criminals.
