A NUMBER of Remembrance Day events will take place around the borough this weekend. Here is a handy guide to what is happening in your area.
Remembrance Day: (Friday 11)
A two minute silence will be held in Uxbridge on the forecourt of Hillingdon Civic Centre at 11am.
The beginning and end of the silence will be signalled by maroon rockets, which will be fired into the sky from 11 separate locations around the borough.
The Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Mary O'Connor will join Civic and Military Leaders and representatives of the local branches of the Royal British Legion for the short act of remembrance.
A Trumpeter from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force will play the Last Post and representative Standards from the Royal British Legion and Normandy Veterans Association will be on parade, while members of the public are invited to attend.
Copies of a book entitled 'The Royal British Legion: 90 Years of Heroes' are available from libraries across the borough. All proceeds go to charity, and it can be bought from Botwell, Uxbridge, Ickenham, Ruislip Manor, and Manor Farm libraries.
Remembrance Sunday: (Sunday 13)
A Remembrance Day procession will begin from St Mary's Church Hall in Harefield High Street at 2.45pm for a service on the village green at 3pm where a wreath will be laid on the war memorial.
A parade will meet at Northwood War Memorial, in Green Lane, Northwood at 10.30am where a re-dedication service will begin at 10.40am.
At 10.40am a parade will start from Abbotsbury Gardens, Eastcote and continue along Field End Road to Eastcote War Memorial, where a service will continue until 11.20am.
At 10.20am attendees should gather at the Saluting Dais in Ruislip High Street at the old memorial site for a service which begins at 10.45am.
An act of Remembrance will be carried out at St Giles Church in Swakeleys Road at 10.55am gathering round the flagpole in the churchyard. A service will also be held at the United Reformed Church in Swakeleys Road at 10.50am.
A Royal British Legion parade will march off from the Hillingdon Fire Station, Uxbridge Road, at 10.30am to attend a short service and wreath laying at the War Memorial situated in the churchyard of St John's Baptist Church, Hillingdon Hill at 10.50am, followed by an 11am service.
At 6pm a choral evening will be held at All Saints Church, in Long Lane, Hillingdon, where a new War Memorial will be dedicated by Bishop Michael Marshall, honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of London.
A service of Remembrance will be held at 10am at the Salvation Army Hall, Cowley Road, Uxbridge, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Uxbridge War Memorial. MP John Randall will attend along with the 47 Signal Squadron, and the
At 10.30am the West Drayton British Legion will meet at St Matthew's Church in High Street, Yiewsley, and an Act of Remembrance will take place at 11am at the War Memorial in the church gardens.
The Royal British Legion will hold a parade beginning by the bandstand at Barra Hall Park, in Church Road, Hayes, starting at 9.15am. They will walk to St Mary's Church, in Church Road, Hayes, in time for a 10.45am service, followed by an Act of Remembrance at the cenotaph at 11am.
The Church of the Immmaculate Heart of Mary, in Botwell Lane, Hayes, will also hold a service beginning at 10am.
A service will be held at Harlington Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul in High Street, Harlington at 10.45am followed by the laying of a wreath at the memorial.
St Mary The Virgin Church will hold a Remembrance Day service at 10.45am.
