PUPILS and teachers had good reason to celebrate this morning with a record breaking year of top GCSE results.

Almost every student at Brentside High, in Greenford Avenue, Hanwell, passed all their exams with an overall pass rate of 99.57 per cent. And 92 per cent of students received A*-C grades, up on last year.

Arwel Jones, who became Secondary School Headteacher of the Year at the London and South East Teaching Awards in 2010, said: “We did amazingly well.

"It was a record breaking year for the school. It's the first time we've got over 70 per cent in English and maths.

“Another great local figure is 30 per cent got at least three or more A or A* grades, which is one in three.”

Kamini Magon, 16, of Perivale, was thrilled to achieve four A*s, four As and four Bs.

“I wasn't too sure with my science,” she said. “I was quite worried because they were all resits and with maths I was quite worried about the higher grade boundaries.

“I'm going to study maths, further maths, biology and chemistry at A-level. I'll probably do something science base of maybe biochemistry at university.”
