Ealing children and parents were monkeying around at an annual Fairtrade fortnight event.

More than 200 people came to watch a world record breaking banana eating contest for the Ealing Fairtrade fundraiser held at Christ The Saviour Church.

Stalls selling fairtrade jewellery, clothes and food lined the church hall and pupils exhibited their art work and organised a fashion show using recycled plastic and materials.

Jackie Whitaker, co-ordinator of the Ealing Fairtrade Group said: "It was really a great atmosphere particularly with the fashion show.

"The stall holders raised over £70 just from the tombola which will be donated to a school in Zimbabwe.

"There were so many people that next year we will be looking for a bigger venue.

"This event is one of many which makes a huge difference to the people who produce goods to ensure they receive a stable and guaranteed price."

The Fairtrade fortnight takes place between February 23 and March 8.
