Volunteers are helping more children from disadvantaged backgrounds access books and develop a love of reading.

Doorstep Library Network has just launched its fifth reading project on the White City Estate.

The charity already provides a lending library which brings books to families at Fulham Court, Clem Atlee, Bayonne and Old Oak estates. It is powered by 44 volunteers who read to 270 children from 135 families.

Volunteer Georgina Chadwick said: “It’s so rewarding to see excited faces waiting by the door for our call - carrying books to return as they anxiously probe in our rucksacks for more treasure. Opening a book together is priceless.”

Reading volunteers Stephanie Stuart, Katie Bareham and Philippa Ahad

The charity needs more volunteers to help expand its reach to more homes in the borough. Visit www.doorsteplibrary.org.uk for more information.
