CHARACTERS came alive at a school in Harrow for an international day of literary celebration.

Pupils at Weald Infant and Nursery School, Robin Hood Drive, Harrow, dressed up as their favourite characters for World Book Day last Thursday.

Fairies, Spidermen and Robin Hood listened to stories from Rastamouse author Michael De Souza, who visited the school and kept the children entertained.

Deepa Samani, deputy head and literacy leader, said: “We themed the whole week with different activities that would encourage children to explore and discover the pleasures of books and reading. It is a week to celebrate books and inspire our children. We want our school to be a place where everyone, the whole school community, talks about reading. We felt this week achieved just that.”

The author visit was part of a whole week of activities.
