Petrified shopkeepers in North Fulham are suffering a reign of terror at the hands of rampaging teenagers.

In the last four months, staff at the Lillie Liquor Mart, Lillie Road, and Best Food and Wine in Munster Road have endured almost daily attacks from thugs who have:

Hurled bricks and rocks through the windows, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage

Smashed CCTV cameras

Hospitalised one staff member

Thrown eggs over stock

The shopkeepers say the attacks are now happening nearly every day, and they are urging police to step up efforts to stop the yobs, who are all believed to live nearby.

Manraaj Mahal, who works with his mother, Manjit, and father Harpal in the Lillie Liquor Mart, which has been owned by the family for 30 years, says the trio are living in constant fear.

The last straw was when rocks which smashed through the front window, which had only been replaced at a cost of £2,800 after a previous attack, struck his mother, causing a leg injury which required hospital treatment.

Manraaj said: "It could have really hurt her. Before she sometimes used to work in here on her own but now I won't leave her – I'm too scared of what will happen.

"They are out here every night, usually about 10 of them, abusing us and throwing stones and rocks.

"I ask them what we have done but they don't say. We had no problems for 30 years but all of a sudden this is happening."

Police are aware of the violence and are gathering evidence but Mr Mahal's father, Harpal, fears nothing can be done.

"These kids don't listen to the police," he said. "They think they are above the law and that they can get away with doing anything they like."

Similar incidents are happening yards away at Best Food and Drink. Eggs are thrown at and in the store on a daily basis and bottles and bottles of alcohol have been smashed by rocks, losing the small firm hundreds of pounds.

CCTV, recently put up to deter the thugs, was smashed soon afterwards.

Worker RS Singh is getting desperate.

He said: "It's happening everyday now and we are scared, we don't know what to do. It's pretty depressing coming to work knowing you are going to be attacked.

"I only joined the shop six months ago and I'm regretting it. Someone could be killed - the bricks and stones they are throwing are big."
