Services are getting back to normal on the West Coast mainline and local lines following the fatality at Hayes and Harlington station this afternoon.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “At 1.45pm we were called following reports of a person having been struck by a train near to Hayes and Harlington station.

"Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from London Ambulance Service, and discovered a person had been struck and killed by a train. The death is not being treated as suspicious and we are now working to determine the identity of the deceased. A report will subsequently be prepared for the coroner.”

Network Rail confirmed the death occurred on the Paddington-Penzance fast line, close to the spot where the line branches off to Heathrow Airport.

It said all services were back to normal by 3.20pm.

A spokesman for First Great Western confirmed that services would be fully back to normal by the evening rush hour.

Although unable to comment specifically about the driver of the train, he said: “Clearly this is the worst thing that could happen to a driver.”

Four men died in as many months in 2012 at the station, prompting Hayes and Harlington Labour MP John McDonnell to call on police, First Great Western and Hillingdon Council to work together to try to prevent more fatalities.
