RAF Northolt has received an award for its work supporting the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games and for helping ongoing air operations in Afghanistan.

It has won the Stainforth Trophy, which is presented annually to the station which contributes the most to the delivery of air power within the Royal Air Force .

Northolt station demonstrated a continuing high level of community engagement, protection of heritage, charity fundraising and sporting activity by personnel.

Group Captain Tim O’Brien, Station Commander RAF Northolt, said: “This is a fantastic honour which recognises the contribution made by the entire station during an important year in our national history.

"Personnel of all ranks, trades and all three services based at Northolt worked together to deliver outstanding efforts which included support to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, ongoing operations overseas, community engagement and heritage, fundraising for charities and success in a variety of sporting activities.

"This is the first time that RAF Northolt has won this and I am extremely proud of what the station has achieved."

The trophy is expected to be formally presented by the Chief of the Air Staff later this year.
