An RAF fireman has received an award for admirable service during which lives were saved in Afghanistan.
Senior Aircraftsman Tom Parry, a fireman from RAF Northolt in West End Road, Ruislip, was among a team based at an airfield in Afghanistan to receive the award.
The fire fighters, forming the RAF Fire and Rescue
Incident Response Team, were heavily committed, during September, to a number of incidents during which lives were saved.
Air Commodore Tony Barmby, who presented the team with the award, said: "I've always been totally confident during my flying career about RAF Fire Fighters' fire fighting ability.
"However, it's not well known generally that they have a role deploying from air bases to conduct vehicle rescue missions for our troops in combat.
I watched these lads demonstrating their skills - they're just fantastic.
"It's good to know that our fellow Servicemen in the field have such a committed team willing to come to their aid."
