FOLLOWING Mr Ferguson's letter (Chronicle, May 29) regarding his experiences of Hounslow Racial Equality Council (HREC) 15 years ago, I'm writing to update readers on the present position.
HREC's discrimination work now covers age, sex, faith, gender and disability discrimination, as well as race. We also deal with hate crime on the basis of gender, faith and race. Through local solicitors, we provide free legal advice on family, immigration, employment and housing matters to all residents of Hounslow. We have an open door policy and our services are open to all sections of the community.
HREC provides best value for money to all our funders and a Community Legal Quality Marked service to our service users. Our membership is reviewed every year and our management structure includes representatives of different community groups. I send an open invitation to Mr Ferguson and anybody else who might share his views to come to Hounslow REC to see what we do.
SATVINDER BUTTAR Director, Hounslow Racial Equality Council.
