HUNDREDS of people queued to buy cakes from a nine-year-old girl who had open heart surgery at Christmas.

Lottie Baker and her friends held a cake sale and tombola outside her front door in Dawlish Drive, Ruislip Manor, this afternoon (Friday) as part of the British Heart Foundation's Ramp up the Red event.

The Lady Bankes School pupil had an operation to repair a hole in her heart at Christmas, and within a week she was out of hospital and already planning ways to give back to the charity that supported her.

Lottie and her friends, all aged seven to nine years-old, were meant to sell the cakes from 3pm - 5pm but had to pack up early because they completely sold out.

Family friend Kelly Thompson said: "People have been queueing down the street and nobody got the hump that they had to queue.

"We have been topping up the cakes as we went but they have all gone now - at least 500.

"Everyone has been amazing in supporting Lottie in donating tombola prizes and everybody has wanted to raise as much as possible.

"Lottie is really excited and has been running up to everyone thanking them for buying her cakes," she said.

The determined fundraiser even persuaded her headteacher to let her school, also in Dawlish Drive, have a red themed non-uniform day.

Lottie's friends down the road at Newnham School in Newnham Avenue, Eastcote, also dressed red for the day to add to her cause.

The fundraisers are still packing up their cake stands and haven't had a chance to count how much money they have raised today, but it is clear Lottie's event was a runaway success.
