The Queen's New Year Honours 2009 includes an Olympic gold medalist, an art critic and a leading restaurateur, all from Hounslow borough.

Peter Reed, of Chiswick, was made an MBE for his services to sport after scooping gold in Beijing in the men's coxless fours.

Fellow Chiswick residents Nigel Platts-Martin, who runs some of London's most acclaimed restaurants, and Maria Kempinska, founder of the Jongleurs comedy clubs, also became MBEs.

Garth Buckle, of Hounslow, was the fourth resident to achieve the honour, for services to young people through his work as business links coordinator at Hounslow Education Business Partnership.

Art critic Lady Marina Vaizey, of Chiswick, was made a CBE for services to the arts.
