Pupils gave a boost to the needy by collecting donations to celebrate Harvest Festival.

Students from Wood End Junior School, in Vernon Rise, Northolt, were visited by volunteers from charity London Run, who provide food for the capital's homeless. They collected items such as tinned food and fresh

fruit. Headteacher Anne Hayes said: "I'm immensely proud of the children and their parents for showing such generosity."

Meanwhile,Durston House Pre-Prep, in Castlebar Road, Ealing, got into the festival spirit at Age Concern's Acton centre.

They handed over £107 along with 40 decorated boxes containing toiletries, biscuits, jams and chocolates to the charity which supports the elderly.

Headteacher Hilary Wyatt said: "The students had a wonderful time talking and making friends with everyone at the centre, and came back really excited from the trip."
