Well read pupils have been rewarded for their hard work in the annual Book of the Year Awards.

Hillingdon Council’s Schools’ Library Service makes awards in three different categories, handed out at a ceremony at Ruislip’s Winston Churchill Hall.

Teams from participating schools make a presentation then all the children and teachers vote for their favourite.

The team from Year 7 (11-12 year olds) at Stockley Academy who came runner up in the secondary schools category. Mia Casey, Danielle Wood, Charlotte Beckwith and Natalie McIlmoyle, with literacy co-ordinator Catherine Brett and academy principal Ian Story Ambia Begum also presented at the event but is not in this picture. This year’s winners were: Picture Book of the Year (10 schools entered). Best presentation: Hillingdon Primary School.

Book of Year (joint): The boy who cried Ninja, by Alex Latimer; Who’s for dinner?, Claire Freedman.

Primary Book of the Year (10 schools entered). Best presentation: Frithwood Primary School. Book of the Year: In a glass Grimmly, Adam Gidwitz.

Secondary Book of the Year (12 schools entered). Best presentation: Swakeleys School. Book of the Year: Wild Boy, Rob Lloyd Jones.
