WITH reference to the article concerning cats being used as target practice in last week's issue (I think it's bored kids using our cats for their target practice,Gazette, July 9), it seems strange that the reason given for the violent behaviour was boredom.

In recent years, attacks on animals have become more prevalent and more violent.

There is always a story about dogs being set on fire by youths or kittens being drowned for 'fun'.

I find it unbelievable that someone would do these things because they were bored.

I think the real issue lies in the fact that even though society is quick to judge, it is not quick to punish.

Too many young people think that they can get away with dangerous and life-threatening behaviour.

The reality of the situation is that people receive too many warnings which they just disregard or use as status symbols.

Everyone feels fit to complain about the society in which we live, yet still nothing is done about it.

The police force needs to be more active in our community and sentences should be a lot harsher.

People who abuse animals because they are bored should learn their lesson and society should not tolerate such disgusting behaviour.
