Customers at five pubs in Harrow have successfully played their part in creating a new world record.

Drinkers took part in a synchronised wine tasting during a wine festival in the borough last month.

The participating pubs were The Moon on the Hill, in Station Road, Harrow,The New Moon, in Kenton Road, Kenton, The Moon and Sixpence,in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, The Village Inn, in Rayners Lane, and The Man in the Moon, in The Broadwalk, Stanmore.

The event was staged simultaneously at 680 other Wetherspoon pubs across the UK with the aim of beating the existing record of 5,100 wine tasters, set in Spain in 2006. Guinness World Records officially confirmed this week that the overall number of people who took part in the UK-wide wine tasting was 17,540, creating a new official Guinness World Record.

The New Moon pub manager Peter Cregg said: "Customers joined in enthusiastically with the world record attempt and I am delighted it has been broken.

"It is fantastic that The New Moon played its part so successfully in creating a new Guinness World Record."
