A VIOLENT man who carried out a campaign of intimidation has been jailed and banned indefinitely from 50 pubs.

Howard Baker, 41, of Central Avenue, Hayes was sentenced last month at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court for being abusive and resisting arrest outside The Fox and Pheasant Pub, West Drayton.

He was already serving a suspended sentence, and has now been given 11 weeks imprisonment plus an ASBO by the court.

The conditions of his ASBO bar him from entering or attempting to enter 50 pubs, including beer gardens and car parks, most of which are in Hayes and West Drayton.

Sergeant Ian Meens, the borough's licensing officer, said: "In the last six years, Baker's name has been mentioned at nearly every meeting of the Pub Watch where it was reported that he was usually aggressive and threatening."

His reputation as a troublemaker has previously made it difficult for police to convict him, for fear of recriminations, and he has previously flouted pub bans which the owners have imposed.

PC Tani Jolaoso said: "Baker's behaviour has been of concern to the local community and police for a number of years.

"By preventing him from entering the premises of Pub Watch members it will have a beneficial effect of supporting pub managers and reassuring their staff and customers."

Baker has previous convictions for assault. If he breaches his ASBO he risks further arrest and custody.

Any breach can be reported to Hillingdon Police.
