You report that a Hillingdon councillor, and Parliamentary candidate, after evaluation of the reasons for his criminal 'irrational behaviour', is deemed not suitable for a stretch in prison [Hate campaigner Oakley spared jail but gets sacked from council, Gazette, October 15].

We should remember that, having been carefully selected, he was within an ace of being elected to Parliament and welcomed to the ranks of those 'honourable gentlemen'!

Should future political selection panels make a psychiatric study of candidates a key feature?
