RESIDENTS who saw the Panorama undercover programme and read the Harrow Observer article (Harrow Observer April 16) will be horrified to learn how elderly and vulnerable people are being treated in Harrow.

It is difficult to understand why we have not ended our contract with Care UK, as has been done by Hertfordshire County Council just across the border.

This disgraceful treatment would never have been uncovered had it not been for the efforts of the national inspectorate, of the local Press and Panorama.

We in the Labour Group have been arguing endlessly that where services are delivered by outside providers, there must be continuous monitoring by the council.

The council is hiding this all from local residents by not being open about what has been happened nor letting people know what measures, if any, the council is putting in place to deal with these matters.

It is hardly any wonder that residents' satisfaction with the council continues to plummet downwards.
