The Ealing Gazette and University of West London would like to thank the public for its fantastic response to our Pride in our People promotional stand at Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre on Saturday. (Feb 22)

This was our annual event to highlight the campaign to find deserving people who live and work across the borough. Once again the shopping centre gave us the space free and shoppers were eager to find out more about the awards, some even making nominations on the spot.

While the stories about nominees are appearing in the Gazette and on our website each week, many people said it was great to be able to see what was involved and ask questions from the campaign team.

Mum Sue Richards, from Hanwell, said: "I nominated someone last year so I know what it means to people. I know they don't do it for the recognition, but I think it's important that the community know what fantastic work so many people are doing."

Many families were happy to stop and talk, if only for the sweets dished out to their kids by the UWL. Jane Harrison, Gazette reporter and campaign co-ordinator, said: "It's really important to inter-act with people and explain what these awards mean. Sometimes the public can feel so remote from what we are trying to do. It's hard work, but worth it when you get such a positive response."

David Lane, director of external relations for the University of West London. said: “Saturday’s event was a great success. The Broadway Shopping Centre has a huge footfall which gave our team of student ambassadors the opportunity to engage with hundreds of people. As a result, I’m confident that many more award nominations will come in over the coming days and weeks. The Pride in Our People Awards celebrate the local community and the University of West London is honoured to support them.”
