MORE than £1,000 was spent by Hillingdon Council on providing bottled water for councillors at meetings last year.

The information was provided exclusively to the Gazette under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Malvern bottled water, produced by Schweppes, is available to all councillors and attendees at public and private meetings held throughout the year at Hillingdon Council.

In total, in the past financial year, the council has spent £1,058.30 on the water.

Despite requests, the council said it would be too costly to find out how much it had spent on the water in the previous two years. The council is currently undergoing an efficiency savings programme, as pressure grows both nationally and locally to cut public spending.
