Premier Inn is considering building a hotel and restaurant in Uxbridge.

The Gazette understands the company, owned by Whitbread and known for its television adverts fronted by comedian Lenny Henry, is in talks with property developer Segro with a view to building an 80-bedroom hotel on derelict land off Riverside Way in Uxbridge Moor.

The development would offer conference facilities and a restaurant.

The land is the final phase of Segro's Riverside Way Industrial Estate, which has grown up over the last dozen years or so and is home to the UK HQ of the energy drink company Monster, sports facility cleaning company Spotless, and Bosch's engine technology centre.

The land used to be occupied by the Bell Punch bus ticket machine company, and more recently Fison's Scientific Equipment factory. It has stood empty and fenced off for about 10 years.

The plans are not even lodged with Hillingdon Council yet, as Segro carries out a survey of local businesses to gauge opinion.

The plans show a hotel, landscaping and plentiful car parking. The site sits between arms of the River Colne, and is flanked to the north by the Uxbridge Moor Nature Reserve.

It is about a 15-minute walk to the town centre. St John's Road forms part of the main route between Uxbridge and Slough.

A Premier Inn would complement the town centre Travelodge in Bakers Road, and bolster the hotel offering in the town, which has hitherto been poor because of the proximity to the numerous Heathrow Airport hotels.

Segro's Neil Impiazzi, who is leading the project, said the plans would be submitted to Hillingdon Council by the end of the month.

"I think it is great news for Uxbridge, and for us it is about investing in the town," he said.
