MOTHERS and toddlers have been celebrating pre-school groups in Harrow and Brent winning awards based on parents’ votes.

UK parenting website Netmums.com asked its members to choose their favourite pre-school activity clubs in each London borough, with the top three services receiving gold, silver or bronze certificates.

Gold in Brent went to Versha Padhiar’s Sing and Sign classes, which provide activities in music, songs, rhymes, dance, craft, drama and baby signing, as well as workshops for parents.

Ms Padhiar said: “I feel honoured to have received this award by all the Netmums voters.

“Sing and Sign gives me so great pleasure knowing that hundreds of parents have benefited. Thank you so much to everyone that voted for me.”

The group is sometimes held in conjunction with the silver winner, Busy Rascals, run by Sharmine Chowdhury-Tse at The Queensbury pub in Walm Lane, Willesden Green.

Ms Chowdhury-Tse said: “It’s great that Busy Rascals has been voted for by so many Netmums parents as one of the top preschool classes in Brent.

“We have had lots of great feedback from local mums and dads who are so happy that there are now fun activities for parents and their little ones in Willesden Green.”

The bronze for Brent was scooped by Butterfly Arts, whose Butterfly Pop Preschool is based at Salusbury Primary School, Salusbury Road, Queens Park.

In Harrow, the Sing And Sign classes organised by Angelina Melwani at Blackwell Hall in Uxbridge Road, Stanmore, on Wednesday mornings came out top.

They entertain children with music, singing, puppets, shakers, bells and laughter.

Jubilant Ms Melwani said: “Over the past 10 years, Sing and Sign has received many national awards and accolades because of the quality and consistency of the programme, but to win the Netmums award for Favourite Pre-School class in Harrow is just the icing on the cake for me, because it is voted for by the mums, dads and carers who have attended the very classes that I teach myself.”

The silver prize was awarded to Lina Mistry, who runs Baby Sensory classes in North Harrow, and the bronze award was scooped by Dinky Dancers, which is held by Gemma Barrett on Tuesdays at Victoria Hall in Sheepcote Road, Harrow.
