A POPULAR and hardworking man who helped to protect Harrow’s most vulnerable adults has been commended for his work after his unexpected death last month.

Bob Mennear joined Harrow Council’s Safeguarding Adults Team in late 2009, working closely with a number of its partners, including Harrow police.

Following his funeral last week, Harrow Borough Commander, Chief Superintendant, Dal Babu awarded him the a commendation.

He said: “Part of Bob’s role was to liaise with police colleagues and support the multi-agency responses when the abuse of vulnerable adults constituted a potential crime. Bob diligently embraced this role and provided an invaluable link between the local authority and the police.

“Bob’s approach has had a positive impact on community safety and his work has helped to reduce the fear of crime and the causes of crime, whilst acting as an ambassador for his profession.”

Tributes have poured in for the married 59-year-old following his death on February 14.

Councillor Margaret Davine, cabinet member for adult social care, health and well-being at the council said: “Bob was dedicated and committed to safeguarding adults work in Harrow and my thoughts are with his close colleagues and family at this sad time.

“The safeguarding adults team has organised a book of condolence for Bob’s family, as they feel it is important that his family are fully aware of the positive impact he had, not only on the quality and safety of services in Harrow, but also on those who grew to know and respect the vast knowledge and skill he brought to his role.”

Detective Sergeant Andy Kilpatrick added: “Bob was a true professional. His dedication and craft made Harrow Borough a safer place for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
