DRINKERS have been left drowning their sorrows once again after another borough pub shut down.

The Goldhawk in Shepherd's Bush became the latest casualty, following hot on the heels of The Hart, The Old Fire Station, both in Hammersmith, and The Grand Union.

Owner Faucet Inn said The Goldhawk, one of the most popular pubs in Shepherd's Bush, has been sold to a developer and is likely to become offices. It is another blow to the pub trade in the area following the demise of The Stinging Nettle, The Rising Sun and The Askew Arms.

Residents said The Goldhawk was popular with QPR fans. Supporter Mark Hillman said: "Such a shame. A pinnacle pub when QPR play and have had some great nights in there, including the promotion to the Premier League."

On Twitter, fellow fan Paul Kelleher said he would now need to find another QPR pub. Other pub-goers also vented their sadness including @candiebandit, who wrote that it was a 'sad day', while @captainofsuave said it was 'desperate times on the pub front, albeit The Goldhawk has been in steady decline'. @ruduss said 'another one bites the dust'.

But Lucy Green called on residents to use their local pubs more. She wrote: "Sad news but surely it comes down to people supporting their local pubs like they would their local greengrocer."

It is not all doom and gloom in the area, though. The Grand Union has become a pop-up whiskey, burger and rib bar until Christmas.
