A POPULAR skating venue has been put on ice this year.
The rink at Haven Green, Ealing, which would have brought festive cheer to the borough for the third year running, has been cancelled to make way for a Christmas market.
Ealing Business Improvement District (BID), which is running a Shop Local campaign, is hoping the market will bring as many visitors to the borough as the numbers attracted by the ice rink.
Helen Taylor, of BID, said: "We decided to have a Christmas market instead as there are many other ice rinks. We wanted to do something different as well as tie in the Shop Local campaign to attract people to shop in Ealing.
"Stalls at the market will be given to existing businesses rather than external traders who would have taken trade away from Ealing. The Haven Green ice rink may be organised again in the future."
Stalls will be open from 10am until 5pm each day between Thursday, December 17 and Wednesday, December 23.
A wide variety of seasonal gifts, accessories, homeware and food will be on sale and children will be able to have their face painted and visit Santa in his grotto. Goodie bags full of toys cost £4 per visit.
