A HOUNSLOW pool player was crowned the most up and coming sports personality of the year at the British Asian Sports Awards.

Raj Hundal, 28, was recognised for becoming an established international sportsman after winning the 1009 Interpool open Championship in Sweden and the 10 ball UK Championship in the same year.

Raj beat off fierce competition from International cricketer Adil Rashid and the first Muslim Formula One test driver, Adam Khan.

This years awards were partnered with Change4Life, the government movement which encourages families to "eat well, move more and live longer".

Joining the nominees on the night was British Asian Sports Awards ambassador and former recipient of an award, Amir Khan.

The British Asian Sports Awards partnership with Change4Life aims to increase awareness of the importance of eating well amongst the South Asian community, where some obesity related illnesses, such as type two diabetes, are higher than the national average.
