The Polo in the Park tournament will stay in Fulham for the next seven years.

The international polo event attracted 29,000 spectators last year and was named best attraction at the London Lifestyle Awards in 2010 and 2011.

Nearby residents are given about 2,000 free tickets annually and school children can take part in taster sessions and pony parades.

It has been held in Hurlingham Park for the past four years and Hammersmith and Fulham Council has agreed a deal with organisers to keep the event in the borough until 2019.

Resident services leader Greg Smith said: “Polo is catapulting Hurlingham Park into the sporting spotlight in London and is fast proving to be one of the most popular events in the calendar.”
