The loss of a much-loved cousin has spurred a Feltham policeman and his family into a massive fundraising campaign they hope will net £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
PC Lee Honey, of Hanworth safer neighbourhood team, and his family have put in months of work to organise the two ambitious charity projects in memory of his cousin, Sheryl Lockyer.
The first event will be a glamorous ball on Friday, June 20, where guests will get the opportunity to mingle with stars from ITV's The Bill and Zoe Tylor, from Loose Women.
Celebrity auctioneer Tom Keane, from Cash in the Attic, will also be hosting an auction with exciting prizes, including a signed Joe Calzaghe boxing glove, a signed Chelsea football, a cricket bat signed by the England team and VIP tickets to top London nightclubs.
The family will then get back to work organising a bike ride from Land's End to John O' Groats by Lee and three of his colleagues from Feltham station.
He said: "The whole idea started quite small but it just grew and grew.
"I suggested the bike ride around October time and then we added the ball and before we knew it we were organising an event for 500 people."
"It's pretty ambitious but we wanted to do something really special for Sheryl. She was an amazing woman."
Sheryl, of Hall Road, Isleworth, who would have turned 50 last month, passed away on December 20 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.
Lee said: "The whole family are absolutely devastated to have lost her but knowing we were doing this for her has helped.
"She used to rave about how fantastic the Macmillan nurses were - she called them 'her girls' - so it will be wonderful to give something back to them."
Tickets cost £35 and there are around 150 left. You can order on www.manmillanbikeandball.co.uk or by calling Janet Honey on 07961 470 117 or Simon Lockyer on 07916 161 586. Raffle tickets will be available on the night.
