A pair of crooks have admitted stealing a Triumph motorbike after being caught riding the iconic vehicle in Chiswick.

Kevin O'Keefe, of no fixed abode, and Cary Grant, of Bates Close, Slough, both admitted aggravated taking and driving away (TDA) when they appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (August 13).

O'Keefe, 31, was jailed for six weeks and Grant, 26, is due to return for sentencing on September 4.

The pair were spotted driving the bike, made famous by Marlon Brandon as a young rebel in 50s film The Wild One, along Chiswick High Road on June 30.

Officers followed the bike after noticing it had no number plates. When they signalled to the driver to stop he tried to escape past the unmarked police car, only to find it was blocking his path.

The officers then chased the men through the streets on foot before stopping and arresting them on suspicion of theft. The bike later turned out to have been stolen earlier that day in Slough.

PC John Taylor, of Hounslow Crime Squad, said: "Just hours after it was stolen in Berkshire the bike was found by police and those responsible arrested. I am sure the quick action of our officers and their determined pursuit stopped other people becoming the victims of crime that day."
