WORLD Cup revellers are being warned about a pick pocket gang targeting the pubs and bars of Fulham Broadway.

Police say there have been 141 reported thefts in ten licensed premises on the Broadway since last April and believe the culprits will target packed venues during the summer football tournament.

The gang often 'surf' for victims which sees them looking over people's shoulders as they use their credit or debit cards to buy drinks.

They then steal their purse, wallet or bag and withdraw large sums from the nearest cash machine.

Sergeant Sean McMahon, of Fulham Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "People remember to cover their PIN at a cash machine or in a shop but it seems that, once they are out in a pub or a bar, they forget there are thieves around.

"People appear to be less inclined to enter their PIN secretly after having a few drinks and this makes it easy for others to find out their numbers."

Staff in the area have been trained by police in how to spot potential thieves.
